Bishop Robert J. Cunningham has appointed Rev. Severine P Yagaza as the pastor of Blessed Sacrament/St. Vincent in Syracuse, NY as of July 1st this year.
Fr. Severine was incardinated to the Diocese of Syracuse in May 2016. He is a native of Tanzania in East Africa. He has been in the Diocese of Syracuse since August 1997 when he was a graduate student at Binghamton University (BU) and also a priest in resident at St. Paul’s Church in Binghamton.
In 2002 he was appointed a parochial vicar at St. Paul in Binghamton. In October 2005 he was appointed parochial priest at the then St. Christopher Church in Binghamton.
In July 2006 he was assigned a parochial vicar to St. Matthew in East Syracuse and in June 2014 he extended his ministry as a parochial vicar to St. Francis of Assisi in Bridgeport and St. Mary the Assumption in Minoa.
Fr. Severine has also been a hospital chaplain since he finished his Clinical Pastoral Education at Upstate Medical Hospital in August 2008. Having served as a hospital chaplain at Crouse-Irving in 2008/2009, he joined St. Joseph’s Health in July 2009. During all this time, he is also a team member of our area Catholic on-call priests for our local hospitals. Fr. Severine looks forward to working with God’s people at Blessed Sacrament/St. Vincent and Pastoral Care Area in building up the Body of Christ.
